For the second consecutive year, The North Face Malaysia – Mountain Trail Festival (TNF-MMTF) is back this year with over 1,900 runners from 27 countries coming to Taiping, Perak, for the competition, which takes place from 13 – 15 December.
The Co-Organisers
The running event is co-organised by the MMTF Consultant, Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Perak, Spritzer Berhad and the Larut Matang Hash House Harriers & Harriets.
Said Ewegene Tan, organiser for TNF – MMTF from MMTF Consultants, “We are proud to be having this event for the second year running and with a bigger turnout this time around. It is a testament that more Malaysians are embracing an active lifestyle through events like this.”
Race Categories
To cater to runners of differing abilities, the race offers four routes of 10km, 25km, 55km and 84km, where runners can test their physical endurance at the pristine yet challenging trails of Taiping with varying elevations of 400m, 1,200m, 3,100m and 4,600m respectively, for the four categories.
Known as the “Freshman Run”, the 10km race is suited to beginners while the new 25km race is known as the “Ball Breaker Run.”
And the 25km, 55km and 84km routes are certified by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and have been added into the list of qualifying races for the world-renowned Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB).
Music And Food
Besides satisfying their craving for trail running, participants can also look forward to music and food as well, at the official race venue, Spritzer Eco Park.

Tourism to Perak and Taiping
Through the event, the organisers also hope to promote the states of Perak and Taiping, as thriving social economies.
Explained Yang Berhormat Tan Kar Hing from Perak State Exco of Tourism, “We are pleased to have the TNF-MMTF back for another year.”
And he also continued, “Last year was a memorable and successful event, and we are confident this event will once again put Perak on the sporting and tourism map.”
Giving Back to Society
The TNF – MMTF event will also give back to the society, with part of the registration fees going in support go the Perdana Global Peace Foundation, an anti-war movement and initiative of global peace – through trail running.
