Man City win 4th EPL title in a row at StarHub “Football For All” Carnival

Organised by StarHub, the highly anticipated “Football For All” carnival took place last evening at the Sands Ballroom at Marina Bay Sands. The carnival featured all 10 final-day English Premier League (EPL) matches being screened at a single location, providing an action-packed experience for the more than 5,000 football fans present.

It was an ambitious project by StarHub to screen all the games in one place and I had to admit I was originally quite intrigued by how the event would turn out and how things would be put together.

The carnival, which opened from around 7:30pm, aimed to bring the joy of football to everyone in Singapore and celebrate the transformative power of Singapore’s favourite sport.

There was lots to see and do, with plenty of football-themed carnival game booths and food galore, the highlight being a human foosball game, where the pins of the foosball table are replaced by people. It was quite funny to watch.

Other arenas included a penalty shootout machine and photo standees of key players from the various EPL teams with whom fans could pose and take photos. Air brush tattoos were also available for free, for those who wanted to get temporary tattoos of their favourite teams. The tattoos were quite artistic and nicely done.

Freebies galore such as movie tickets for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” were also being given out at the event. The movie tickets given out were for a screening held on Friday 31 May.

Almost all the booths were well received and proved to be very popular amongst the attendees at the event.

My personal favourites were the kachang puteh and the Potong ice cream, because I love to eat. Kachang puteh is always nostalgic and reminds me of my childhood days while ice cream is cold and refreshing.

There was also an exclusive meet and greet session with two EPL legends, Shaun Wright-Philips (Man City) and Luis Garcia (Liverpool), both household names familiar to many EPL fans. For a very limited-time window of about half an hour, long lines of fans queued to get selfies and autographs with the two football legends.

Wright-Philips and Garcia shared their pre-match analysis with the audience, and as we waited for the matches to begin, we were also entertained by banter and commentary presented by event emcee Ross Sarpani, Futbolita founder Ash Hashim and TV presenter Edward Russell. They shared their thoughts about football and the various happenings, goings-on and highlights that had taken place throughout the course of the EPL season.

Fun games were also staged and hosted by Ross. For example, participants had to see how long they could hold the word “Goal” for in a single breath.

To cap off a night of fun and festivities, the matches began at 11pm. We witnessed Man City winning their fourth title in a row. Congratulations to the Cityzens.

The carnival and festivities were capped off a post-match debriefing by Wright-Philips and Garcia, both of whom shared their thoughts and comments on how the games went.
