Late last week, football legend Zinedine Zidane launched the official Euro 2016 match ball on his personal Instagram page.
Incorporates the colours of the French flag
The ball, named Beau Jeu, is translated as “The Beautiful Game” in English. And the colours incorporate the blue, white and red colours of the French flag and comprises silver highlights in reference to the much sought-after Euro 2015 trophy for all teams taking part.
The letters E, U, R, O and the numbers 2, 0, 1 and 6 are also seen clearly through the design of the ball.
Based on the design of the much-loved Brazuca
Beau Jeu is based on the design of the much-loved Brazuca match ball from the 2014 FIFA World Cup and given a French touch, to commemorate the Euro 2016 which will be held in France.
Beau Jeu comprises of Brazuca’s panel shape, with improvements made to the surface structure and blocking, together with increased grip and flexibility and enhanced in-flight visibility.
Players speak positively of the ball
European players who have already tested the ball, speak positively of it. Said Welsh forward Gareth Bale, “I tested Beau Jeu in training with long shots, passes and running at pace. It performed brilliantly. I can’t wait for the tournament to start.”
Added Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas, “As a goalkeeper, it’s important to have the chance to take goal kicks, practise shot-stopping, punch, catch and throw any new ball. We got to use Beau Jeu in training sessions, and it will be great at Euro 2016.”
To give players from competing nations a six-month window to train and test out the ball, Beau Jeu will be given out to all of the competing federations by the end of November 2015.
