More than 400 participants turned up yesterday for the Standard Chartered Marathon Training Kick-Off organised by IRONMAN Asia, which took place at VivoCity.
A Wanda Sport Holdings Company, IRONMAN Asia operates a global portfolio of events around the world, that includes the IRONMAN® Triathlon series, the IRONMAN® 70.3® Triathlon Series, the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series®, Iron Girl® and IRON KIDS®, amongst many others. They have grown to be a global sensation with more than 200 events across 50 countries around the world.
And with race day approaching in 16 weeks’ time, the event had provided runners with a platform to experience consultations with race partners and take part in training runs and coaching sessions.
So if you have not yet begun training for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, now would be a great time to embark on your training programme.
Sweat Testing
Besides heart-rate training sessions and consultations, 16 runners also underwent a Sweat Test by the event’s Official Training Partners Coached, which is a method used by elite athletes to better understand how their bodies use water during sport.
This in turn, will help them to manage their hydration needs in training and on race-day.
5KM Lead Up Run
And there was also a 5KM Run around the VivoCity area which was led by the event’s official pacers, who are from Running Department as well as a nutrition consultation session by FoodBuddy, amongst other activities.
Runners who had been present at the event yesterday had enjoyed themselves.
Said Ang HengPei, 30, a participant of the 5KM Run, “I think it’s well organised. I liked the briefing that they gave initially before the run started. By following the training programme, we’ll be able to build up the stamina slowly, towards race day.”
Shoe Trial for the Under Armour HOVR
As well, runners also got the chance to try out the under Under Armour HOVR – the official running shoes of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2018 and furthermore, those who had liked their experience with, and had wanted to purchase the shoe afterwards, could then get 20 per cent off.
I think that having shoe trials such as these, are a great way for runners to experience a new running shoe.
This is because we do not know exactly how a shoe would feel on our feet and whether it is suited to our running stride, unless we take it on a run outdoors.
So runners, who often have to make a decision on whether to purchase a running shoe – simply by walking around the shop with it, might end up buying shoes that they will ultimately not wear.
Thus, getting the opportunity to have shoe trials means that a runner will know exactly what the shoe feels like on an outdoor run, and will therefore be able to make a more informed decision.
