In a surprising new development, Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen has re-released Flappy Bird into both the Apple and Android app stores – and they are available for download now.
Last month, it had been reported in the media that Nguyen was planning on re-releasing his popular smartphone game, but had yet to decide on a date.
Changed his mind
But Nguyen had decided to fast-forward his plans to bring back the game, because he had felt so touched and moved by his fans.
They had been writing emotional fan letters to him and begging him to re-release the game for both Apple and Android.
In an interview with a Vietnamese technology-based website, he had said, “My Flappy Bird fans really urged me to give Flappy Bird a comeback on Apple and Android. They wrote to me in such a sweet manner and their words made me almost cry.”
Bigger and Better With More Features
Nguyen also said that the new Flappy Bird game would be much bigger and better with more new added features. The game is still free for users to download and they will not have to pay a cent, but now there will be more challenges to keep players entertained.
The biggest feature of the new version will be a higher screen resolution and better pixels. So now you will be able to see every feather and detail on your Flappy Bird avatar’s body.
In the new game, if players manage to reach a specific number of points, users will be granted certain types of boosters. For example, upon reaching 50 points, there will be a “Keep-in-the-air” booster given to players.
This booster, upon being played, will enable players to keep Flappy Bird in the air – without crashing – for a full five seconds.
So if you feel that you are about to crash and you have this booster, then you can save yourself from certain death. Different boosters will be awarded to players at 100, 200, 300 and 500 points respectively – and so on.
More Variations of Flappy Bird
What’s more, Nguyen has also just introduced four new versions of Flappy Bird for fans to enjoy the game even more. These will be based loosely on four popular movie franchises.
These are Star Wars, the Matrix trilogy, the Hunger Games and Divergent.
So far, two of these have already been released. These are the Hunger Games and Divergent versions. According to Nguyen, the other two will be coming out in the next couple of days. So do stay tuned, fans!
