Friendships and lessons learnt at League Of Legends Singapore Summer Camp

At the first-of-its-kind League of Legends (LoL) Summer Camp at *SCAPE for youths aged between 13 – 25, attendees left the camp on a happy note, praising the event’s organisers for their innovative programming, which left them with freshly acquired knowledge and new friendships.

Designed to engage like-minded individuals in eSports

The 3D2N camp, which had been from 27 – 29 June, is part of *SCAPEeSports Exposure & Experience Programme 2019 (EXP2019), was designed to engage like-minded individuals through eSports insights learning, gaming-related challenges and outdoor activities to help attendees forge deep friendships with team-mates, acquire lifelong skills and achieve clarity about their potential in eSports.

EXP 2019 is a platform where yours can experience a holistic programme in eSports to master in-game skills, cultivate appropriate online behaviours and explore their passion for eSports.

Camp activity highlights

One of the camp activity highlights had been the Amazing Race Challenge at Sentosa, where teams raced against the clock to score points at team challenges at 14 locations within the island.

As well, a character building activity called Focus Adventure at Sentosa was held too, where, as the name suggested, attendees had to work with team-mates to scale a 24-metre high challenge tower.

Student Nicholas Tan, 23, who attended the camp, loved the various games and challenges during the three days.

He said, “Most of us come from different backgrounds and had never met, so it’s great that there were many fun games that allowed us to know our team-mates better and build up the interaction. There are virtual prizes to be won in various challenges and over the three days, we learnt what matters most is to have fun and win as a team.”

The camp mentors had been professional gamers from Resurgence and they guided the youths on game strategies and prepared them for an in-camp tournament too.

Talks by industry experts

Besides the activities, the camp was also a wealth of information. The first two days of the camp had featured industry experts like Resurgence Team owner Jayf Soh, GameStart executive Reuben Sim, eSports founder Darrell Sin, all of whom shared insightful talks on the gaming industry and eSports landscapes.

And these talks had been much appreciated by the camp attendees such as Rohan Raj, 18, who said, “The virtual world and gaming can be toxic at times, but the pros provided many interesting examples where reacting to online banter or losing your cool will only worsen your performance.”

One of the talk highlights, according to Rohan, had been where Resurgence pro Samuel Chan shared more about toxicity and tilt management.

Explained Rohan, “The talk on Tilt Management has given me fresh insights on how to deal with gameplay stress while the DISC personality test on the final day of the camp helped me to understand more about my personality and how to react to people, both online and offline.”

EXP 2019 offers workshops

Besides the summer camps, EXP2019 also offers 40 workshops with topics ranging from in-game skills and tactics, cyber-wellness, content creation, streaming, commentary work and more.

And these workshops will be held from July – December this year.
